Happy New Year!

2014 was a challenging year in many ways...but also one in which I got to see a LOT of the world...and for that I am extremely grateful!

So happy 2015 from 'my family' to yours!

Hoping to write more in 2015!

Wow...I was browsing your blog and saw that you traveled to Ukraine and South Africa. I have also done so.

I first traveled to Ukraine in 2004, and volunteered with a ministry that rescued orphaned and abandoned children in Lviv. I returned to Lviv, Ukraine on two other occasions, in 2006 and 2010. During the 2010 trip, I was able to attend the wedding of one of the children who had grown up in the home, operated by American missionaries since 1993. I met many children with heartbreaking stories of abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Despite these circumstances, these rescued children came alive through God's love, poured onto them, and into them, through the missionaries. It was wonderful to be part of something God did, and continues to do.

I have visited South Africa three times as well. First, in 2007, I visited step-family and volunteered at a preschool and a children's ministry in the Natal Province (city called Margate). I returned to South Africa in 2008, and volunteered at God's Golden Acre, located in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, between Durban and Petermaritzburg. That same year, I spent three months in Swaziland, at El Shaddai Ministries, located between Mbabane and Piggs Peak.

After these experiences, I attended a seminary in New York. For my final project, I returned to South Africa for ten weeks of field work, and stayed at Abraham Kriel Childcare in Johannesburg. I was able to visit three other homes to interview directors and staff, to gain insight and knowledge into the scope of orphan care and procedures in the area.

I pray you will be able to continue to travel and touch lives.
